Reset

It's been a while since there was a Vanport City Triathlon update. I've been thinking about the future of the VCT while nursing a sore knee that just won't seem to resolve itself. The bottom line is this is an event I've really enjoyed putting on for friends and family and I think it's worth giving one more shot in 2012 before re-assessing the future of the event.

We're going to give the event one more try for 2012 on 9/22.

I know from talking with potential participants for the original August date that there is some interest but the date didn't work for everyone. I'm hopeful that a later date will work better; the weather should still be plenty warm and we're a bit past the busyness of summer.

Here's what you need to know:

  • The whole idea of the VCT is to be as accessible as possible. The distances are short and many participants either organize a group for a relay or simply participate in the event(s) that feel most comfortable for them.
  • The VCT follows a typical triathlon pattern: swim, bike, run. The distances are relatively short as well (.5mi swim, 27mi ride, 3mi run). Again, the idea is to make this an event that nearly anyone could do.
  • The VCT course covers just over 30 miles in and around Sauvie Island, North Portland, and historic Vanport City, Oregon.
  • As always, the VCT will end with a huge meal and some home brew.
This may be the last year of the VCT. If you've participated in the past, we'd love to see you again to celebrate the event and its participants. If you've never been, we hope to see you there!
